Join Michael Abramoff, MD, PhD, and Seth Rainford for the latest episode of the Race to Value podcast as they discuss the scalability of autonomous AI and how using it will unlock value for all stakeholders, including payers, providers, and patients. Plus, how to decrease the risk of implicit bias within AI algorithms.
We are entering the era of autonomous artificial intelligence. The biggest breakthrough in recent years came when FDA clearance was granted for an autonomous AI diagnostic system to detect diabetic retinopathy (including macular edema). The implications of this on the value-based care movement are profound as this will expand access to primary care and provide early detection of a condition that disproportionately impacts minoritized and marginalized populations. (While anyone with diabetes may develop vision complications, minorities, including African Americans and Hispanics, are 2 to 3 times more likely than Caucasians to do so.)
