These patients often go undiagnosed and untreated. They suffer needlessly and contribute to rising healthcare costs. Existing mental health screening tests were not widely used in medical settings. Dr. Shedler learned through interviews and focus groups that the tests did not meet physicians' needs. They were too time-consuming, did not integrate well into busy medical clinics, and often did not provide enough information to help PCPs make treatment decisions.
